Planning a baby shower for yourself, a friend, or a family member, is very exciting. As you start planning for the baby shower, and try to plan an event that reflects both the mother-to-be and the baby on the way, you will inevitably have to choose an invitation to send out. Traditional Cards

If you opt to use a traditional paper card to mail out to your list of invitees, you have many, many options. The first option it to buy a pack of invitations from a retail store. You certainly won't be at loss for colors and styles, but you may be at a loss for personalization. If you want to use store bought cards, but want to personalize them for your guests, you have a few options. Buy invitations that are designed to hold a photograph, and include a picture of the mother-to-be in her glowing state. Or, include a picture of her as a baby. This will make a great addition to the baby's scrapbook of the occasion.

Simpler additions to store bought invitations are confetti, which you can just sprinkle inside the card for guests to find when they are opened. You can also try a personalized seal for the invitation envelope, using either a regular rubber stamp or wax. Both rubber stamps and embossed seals are easy to find at craft stores, and come in a variety of designs, initials, etc. Envelope seals are a great idea for baby shower invitations because they create a sense of tradition and formality.

Make Your Own

If you are an exceptionally crafty person, and prefer to make the invitations yourself, there is no limit to baby shower invitation ideas. Use specialized papers from an art supply store for an elegant touch. If you're a gifted artist, or just have great handwriting, try using calligraphy. Don't limit yourself to a standard rectangular shape for the card itself, have fun. Make the card in the shape of a crib, a baby rattle, or a basinet. Use ribbon, even dried or artificial flowers, to decorate.

You can also use your computer to make fantastic baby shower invitations. Instead of buying photo-holding cards, just design and print them yourself. This is a great baby shower invitation idea if you still want professional looking cards, but still want control over the design and wording. You can play with the color schemes, fonts, and designs, and can also find some nice paper for printing. Print your own envelopes too and save some time trying to address them by hand!
